About This Location

Tsomgo Lake (also called Changu Lake), at 3,753m above sea level, is a glacial lake 40 km from Gangtok that remains frozen from December to February. Surrounded by steep mountains, it changes character dramatically through the seasons — frozen silver in winter, reflecting deep blue summer skies, and rimmed with primulas and rhododendrons in spring. Yaks graze around the lake, which is sacred to the local people.
